I once came home to a smoke-filled house to find a power strip plug on fire at the outlet. My computer was fried as was a desk lamp and printer. Had I been aware that there was a difference between a surge protector and a basic power strip I could have avoided this. It was an expensive lesson and now I'm trying to make others aware of this threat with my little blog.
